The Lighting is the Key!

Lighting Mesh Network

Our Energio Controls system forms a wireless mesh network enabling each fixture to be addressable and individually controllable.  Each fixture has a factory installed network radio.

IoT Backbone

Our mesh network is unique!  Unlike single use networks that only work with a single system (often proprietary) our mesh network can be used by other systems to transmit data across the building, without interfering with the function of the lights!

Lighting is the only system in a building that is in every space, is evenly distributed and always has power.  This makes our network the perfect, if not the ultimate IoT backbone!  With Energio, for the cost of the lighting system you also get a building wide information network that is isolated from your companies data network. To accomplish this we use Massive IoT Technology from Wirepas (www.wirepas.com)

Wirepas Massive IoT Technology

The Advantages

The largest massive IoT mesh requires technology that’s able to scale both performance and cost. Everyone claims massive. We prefer facts over marketing talk. Here are a few numbers to illustrate what massive means for us. Our largest deployed network (and most probably globally) includes 920,000 devices in a single mesh network. That’s a lot. We can handle even more than that. When we talk about density, our technology allows reaching an ultra-high density of 1000 devices in one cubic meter. This is what we call massive IoT.

What makes it massive?

We connect millions of devices in a single mesh network without heavy infrastructure. How?

The core of the Wirepas technology is ‘decentralized’ operations. We distribute all network management tasks to each device in the network. Devices are smart enough to make all decisions locally. Based on the local measurements, they decide how to form, maintain and operate the network. Every device can be a router at any time. They can send and receive data in the network. Because routers can also be power-efficient, they can be run on batteries. Batteries make network deployment as easy as sticking devices to an asset, a wall, or a container. With years of battery life.

No need to worry about coexistence

Coexistence with other technologies is essential when you talk about smart buildings. Our Wirepas connectivity has been designed for massive IoT and polite spectrum usage. Independently of your selected profile, the connectivity will always try to limit its impact on other devices. It does that by using – for example – listen before talk, adaptive transmit power, and having automatic channel selection among the 40 BLE channels in case of the Mesh 2.4 GHz profile. This makes Wirepas connectivity able to deal with massive IoT in smart buildings where the 2.4 GHz is usually used for many other purposes—leading to happy IT departments. Nice, isn’t it? And last but not least, if you require ultra-reliable communication, our 5G Mesh profile uses a dedicated spectrum at 1.9 GHz combined with coexistence built into the standard. You are pushing even more the boundaries of Wirepas Connectivity Suite.
